Summer Conducting Seminar
June 16-25, 2014

10 Fellows will have over 2.5 hours total conducting time (including three sessions with the Baltimore Chamber Orchestra, two with the Stravinsky L’Histoire du Soldat ensemble, and nine with a 1-per-part ensemble), plus daily video reviews, and two daily technique sessions focused on gaining control of the muscles that generate the physical component of conducting.

Henry Fogel, preeminent among American orchestra administrators, will be in residence providing individual career counseling for Fellows and Associates. Additionally, the directed daily breakfast conversations with Maestro Thakar cover topics musical and practical.

The program begins with five days of Boot Camp: twice daily technique sessions, with two days dedicated to the fundamentals of music-making and three days dedicated to the principal musical forms - theme & variations, fugue, and sonata form. The second part, Ensembles, includes L’Histoire Day, and three days of conducting the Baltimore Chamber Orchestra in music by Dvorak, Mozart, and Mendelssohn.
